Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Journalist role based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Migrant Times is seeking a journalist to strengthen our editorial coverage across business, economy, lifestyle, and society. We are looking for someone who can identify stories beyond traditional migration reporting and help expand our coverage of how mobility shapes everyday life and economic trends across Asia.

What You'll Do

  • Research, write, and publish news articles, explainers, features, and analysis.
  • Cover business, economy, lifestyle, workforce, education, and social trends.
  • Identify original story angles and develop editorial pitches.
  • Conduct interviews with professionals, academics, policymakers, and industry leaders.
  • Monitor regional developments and turn complex issues into accessible stories.
  • Work closely with editors and social media teams to maximise audience reach.

Qualifications

  • Strong journalistic writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, compelling stories under deadline.
  • Demonstrated research skills to source information, verify facts, analyze data, and contextualize complex policy and economic issues.
  • Experience preparing Press Releases and other media communications to support organizational messaging and outreach.
  • Familiarity or experience with Broadcasting or multimedia storytelling (audio, video, or digital formats) is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong interest in migration, labor, human rights, global policy, or economic development topics.
  • Excellent interviewing, critical thinking, and fact-checking abilities, with a commitment to ethical and inclusive reporting.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia or other regional languages is a plus.
  • Ability to work on-site in Jakarta, collaborate in a diverse newsroom, and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
