Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate ground surveys to obtain data on existing hydrological conditions in the project area, including the canal network, water table, drainage conditions, and peat characteristics.
  2. Conduct topographic surveys using appropriate methods (RTK, drone surveys, total station, or other methods) to obtain elevation profiles of the project area.
  3. Conduct hydrological analysis and water flow modeling to support the rewetting strategy.
  4. Identify optimal canal blocking locations based on topographic, hydrological, elevation, and water management effectiveness analyses.
  5. Prepare hydrological rewetting technical documents, including hydrological baselines, rewetting technical designs, implementation strategies, and technical recommendations.
  6. Analyze the effectiveness of rewetting interventions on increasing groundwater levels and reducing carbon emissions.
  7. Evaluate the relationship between water table changes and estimated GHG emission reductions.
  8. Provide technical guidance to the field team on rewetting design implementation and hydrological monitoring.
  9. Monitoring changes in water level, water quality, and vegetation growth after peat restoration.
  10. Understand the concepts, formulation, and implementation of technical design for planning, implementation, and monitoring related to land subsidence, peat GHG, and peatland rewetting.
  11. Design and implement hydrological restoration efforts to restore natural water flow conditions in degraded peatland areas. This involves creating waterways, regulating water levels, and unblocking water flow.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (Water Resources), Forestry, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field.
  2. Minimum 7 years of experience in peatland hydrology, ecosystem restoration, watershed management, or peat rewetting projects.
  3. Proven experience in developing hydrological assessments and technical rewetting design documents for peatland restoration projects.
  4. Strong understanding of tropical peat hydrology, groundwater dynamics, water table management, and canal blocking design principles.
  5. Experience in conducting field surveys including hydrological assessment, water table monitoring, topographic surveys, and canal network mapping.
  6. Strong technical skills in hydrological analysis, spatial analysis, GIS, DEM/topographic interpretation, and hydrological modeling tools.
  7. Experience using survey and mapping technologies such as RTK GPS, Total Station, UAV/Drone survey, or similar field instruments.
  8. Demonstrated experience in identifying optimum canal blocking locations based on hydrological and topographical analysis.
  9. Understanding of peatland carbon dynamics and the relationship between rewetting interventions and greenhouse gas/carbon emission reduction.
  10. Excellent analytical, technical reporting, and documentation skills in English.
  11. Familiarity with carbon project methodologies and standards (Verra VCS, VM methodologies, peatland restoration methodologies, or similar frameworks) is preferred.
  12. Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and local communities.
