Head of Legal - Multinational Manufacturing Company

About the Company

We are working with a well-established multinational manufacturing company with a significant presence in Indonesia and a large-scale manufacturing operation.

The business is continuing to develop its Indonesia operations, including a new greenfield manufacturing project, creating an opportunity for a senior Legal professional to play an important role in supporting the company's growth, regulatory requirements and day-to-day operations.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with the business and senior leadership, rather than being purely office-based or focused on legal documentation.

About the Role

As Head of Legal, you will report to the Legal Director and lead a team of around four people.

You will provide legal support across the company's manufacturing operations, working closely with senior leadership as well as HR, Sustainability, Facility Management and Plant Management.

The role has a broad scope covering regulatory affairs, licensing, compliance, contracts and employment-related matters, with a strong focus on helping the business navigate an evolving regulatory environment.

A key part of the role will also be supporting the company's greenfield manufacturing development, including the required permits, licences and regulatory processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Legal function for the Indonesia operations
• Support greenfield development projects, including licensing, permits and regulatory requirements
• Manage and monitor the company's various operational and business licences
• Provide legal advice on supplier, customer, commercial and other business contracts
• Support the business on compliance matters and internal investigations
• Advise management on sensitive employee and workplace-related legal matters
• Work closely with HR on employee relations, mediation and manpower-related matters
• Monitor changes in Indonesian regulations and translate them into practical actions for the business
• Liaise with relevant government authorities and ministries on regulatory and licensing matters
• Work closely with Plant, Facility, HR and Sustainability teams on operational issues
• Act as a trusted legal partner to line managers and senior leadership
• Identify potential legal and regulatory issues proactively and help the business determine the appropriate course of action
• Lead and develop the Legal team

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a strong technical Legal professional who understands the realities of working within a large-scale manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Around 15+ years of relevant legal experience
• Strong experience in manufacturing, industrial or another highly regulated environment
• Solid knowledge of Indonesian licensing and regulatory requirements
• Experience handling permits and working with government authorities
• Strong understanding of employment and manpower-related matters
• Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial, supplier and customer contracts
• Experience managing compliance matters and sensitive internal cases
• Previous experience working in a multinational company is preferred
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• The maturity and judgement to handle sensitive and complex situations
• Ability to work closely with senior leaders and provide clear, practical advice
• Proactive mindset — able to anticipate regulatory or legal issues rather than simply respond once they arise
• Strong Bahasa Indonesia and English communication skills
