About the role:
The Head of AI – Indonesian Market is a senior AI technical lead responsible for the end-to-end development, deployment, and operation of AI solutions for the Vivi Assistant/Agent on VinFast vehicles in Indonesia. This role builds and leads a local AI Engineering team, drives AI localization aligned with Indonesia's linguistic and cultural characteristics, and works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver the product roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary AI technical lead in Indonesia, owning the full lifecycle of Vivi AI solutions – from localization research through to production operations.
- Build, recruit, manage, and develop the local AI Engineering team; establish workflows, technical standards, and team culture.
- Lead AI localization: Build training datasets, adapt, and fine-tune Speech models (ASR/TTS), LLMs, NLP models, and Agentic AI systems for target markets, including Bahasa Indonesia, Indonesian English accent, and regional languages.
- Design and operate end-to-end AI pipelines: data collection – training – fine-tuning – evaluation – deployment – monitoring – continuous model updates.
- Collaborate with the AI team at VinSmart Future Hanoi to receive the core AI platform, customize and deploy it for the Indonesian market.
- Act as the primary point of contact with QA/QC, BA, and PM teams in Indonesia to ensure quality and on-time delivery per project timelines.
- Track AI trends, linguistics, and EV technology in Indonesia; propose improvements to Vivi that fit the needs of local users.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
Experience:
- 7–10 years of experience in AI research and development, with a background as an AI Scientist or AI/ML Engineer; including at least 3 years in a technical leadership or team management role.
- Demonstrated track record: international publications, patents, or successful large-scale AI product deployments in production environments.
- Experience in the Automotive, Electric Vehicle (EV), or Smart Car industry. [Preferred]
Technical Competencies:
- Hands-on experience developing and fine-tuning Speech models: ASR (Whisper, Conformer, wav2vec 2.0), TTS (VITS, NaturalSpeech, Voicebox), Speaker Verification and Diarization.
- Experience in fine-tuning and adapting Speech models for low-resource languages, particularly Bahasa Indonesia and regional Indonesian languages. [Preferred]
- Hands-on experience developing and fine-tuning LLMs: SFT, RLHF, DPO, LoRA/QLoRA, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and LLM evaluation.
- Experience building Agentic AI and Multi-agent systems: agent workflow design, tool-use, function calling, memory management, ReAct and Chain-of-Thought reasoning.
- Proficiency with AI frameworks and serving infrastructure: Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex, vLLM, PyTorch/TensorFlow, ONNX, TensorRT, Triton Inference Server.
- Experience with model optimization for deployment: quantization, pruning, and knowledge distillation for server, cloud, and edge/on-device environments.
- Experience with on-device AI / edge AI: optimizing and deploying models on embedded systems or real-time, latency-critical applications. [Preferred]
Other Requirements & Core Competencies:
- Strong English communication skills (spoken and written); understanding of Indonesian linguistic and cultural characteristics to guide the development of locally appropriate AI solutions.
- Willingness to travel or work on rotation between Indonesia and Hanoi, Vietnam, as required by the project.
- Strong presentation and communication skills; ability to bridge the local engineering team in Indonesia and the central team in Vietnam.
