About the customer

Our client is an international sourcing, procurement and trading company based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, specializing in FF&E, OS&E, furniture, fixtures, equipment and décor for hospitality, commercial, residential and wholesale clients.

The company works with hotels, developers, designers, wholesalers and international brands, providing end-to-end solutions covering product development, sourcing, procurement, supplier management, production follow-up, quality assurance and quality control, project coordination and logistics.

With international hospitality and commercial projects becoming a major focus of its development strategy, the company is looking for a commercially driven and hands-on General Manager to lead its next stage of growth, regional development and organisational transformation.

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Owner/CEO, the General Manager will take overall responsibility for the company's business performance, commercial development and day-to-day management.

The GM will lead a lean, multidisciplinary organisation covering Business Development, R&D/Sourcing, Operations, QA/QC, PPIC, Finance/Administration, Marketing and IT/ERP.

This position combines commercial leadership, P&L ownership, organisational development and operational oversight.

The successful candidate must be comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial SME environment, able to move between strategic decisions and hands-on execution while developing the organisation and management structure as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Commercial Growth

  • Develop and execute the company's commercial strategy, with a strong focus on international hospitality, commercial and project-based business.
  • Build, manage and develop the commercial pipeline and ensure disciplined follow-up of qualified opportunities.
  • Drive the conversion of opportunities into profitable projects and long-term client relationships.
  • Develop relationships with hotels, developers, designers, procurement companies, wholesalers, brands and other strategic accounts.
  • Participate directly in major quotations, commercial negotiations and key account management.
  • Develop repeat and recurring business from existing clients while expanding the international customer portfolio.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate Business Development KPIs, pipeline forecasting and conversion reporting.

P&L & Financial Performance

  • Take overall ownership of company P&L performance and agreed financial objectives.
  • Drive revenue growth while protecting gross margins and project profitability.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, working capital and key financial indicators in coordination with the Finance function.
  • Ensure commercial decisions, supplier negotiations, purchasing conditions and client payment terms support sustainable profitability.
  • Establish clear financial and management reporting for decision-making.

Operations & Project Execution

  • Ensure projects and orders are executed on time, within agreed budgets and according to client requirements and quality standards.
  • Oversee procurement, sourcing, supplier management, production follow-up, QA/QC, logistics and project coordination through the respective department leaders.
  • Ensure appropriate management of operational, supplier, quality, export and logistics risks.
  • Maintain high levels of client service throughout project execution.
  • Resolve major cross-functional issues and escalate critical risks when necessary.

Trading, Procurement & Regional Supply Chain

  • Ensure disciplined implementation of the company's trading model and commercial procedures.
  • Protect commercial and supply-chain confidentiality.
  • Ensure appropriate control of purchasing, supplier negotiations, contractual commitments, margins and export requirements.
  • Support the progressive diversification of the company's regional sourcing and supply-chain capabilities beyond Indonesia, including potential development in China, Vietnam and Malaysia.
  • Guide the relevant R&D/Sourcing and Operations functions in identifying, qualifying and developing new regional supply capabilities where commercially relevant.

Organisation & Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a lean cross-functional team and build a culture of accountability, ownership and execution.
  • Assess organisational capabilities and recommend improvements to structure, responsibilities and resources.
  • Establish clear objectives and KPIs for managers and departments.
  • Implement disciplined management meetings, follow-up and performance reviews.
  • Recruit, develop and retain key talent as the organisation grows.
  • Build an organisation capable of operating efficiently with clear delegation and accountability.

Systems, ERP & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive disciplined adoption and use of the company's ERP, reporting systems, SOPs, dashboards and management controls.
  • Improve workflows, internal communication and cross-department coordination.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical corrective actions.
  • Ensure company information and operational data are properly recorded, structured and accessible for management purposes.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Indonesian regulations, company policies and applicable industry requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal functions and external professional advisers where required.
  • Work closely with the Owner/CEO on strategy, major commercial decisions, investments, new markets and organisational development.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum approximately 8 years of relevant professional experience, including significant experience managing multidisciplinary teams, a business unit or company operations.
  • Proven commercial and Business Development track record.
  • Demonstrated experience managing financial performance, budgets, margins and/or P&L.
  • Strong operational and project-management capability.
  • International business and client exposure.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong systems, process and reporting orientation.
  • Fluent professional English.
  • Willing and able to be based full-time in Yogyakarta.

Not required but would be a plus

  • Experience in one or more of the following sectors will be considered an advantage:

  • Previous experience in Indonesia or Southeast Asia, exposure to multi-country sourcing and familiarity with ERP-driven organisations will also be advantageous.

A previous General Manager title is not mandatory. Strong candidates currently operating as Country Managers, Business Unit Directors, Commercial Directors, Operations Directors or in comparable senior leadership positions are encouraged to apply.

Location

  • Yogyakarta, Indonesia – full-time, on-site position.
  • International and domestic travel may be required depending on projects, clients and suppliers.

Compensation

Competitive executive package based on experience and profile, including performance-related components. (between IDR 25.000.000 - 40.000.000 net)
