Job Description

Job overview and responsibility

The Country General Manager (GM) is the senior in-country leader responsible for the day-to- day management of the country business and the safe, reliable operation of the company's data center site(s). The role carries end-to-end accountability for local execution across critical facilities operations, customer service delivery, corporate administration, governance and compliance, and country-level financial discipline. This position represents the company locally with customers, authorities, utilities, landlords/industrial parks, and strategic vendors, while partnering closely with regional/HQ teams to ensure alignment, efficiency, and consistent standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Country Leadership & Business Management

Lead the overall country operating model and ensure effective daily execution across operational and corporate functions.

Set clear priorities, operating cadence, and performance standards; drive accountability through KPIs and structured management reviews.

Serve as the senior local representative for key external engagements and protect the company's reputation through consistent, professional stakeholder management.

- Data Center Operations & Critical Environment Excellence

Own operational outcomes for one or multiple data center sites, ensuring 24x7 mission- critical readiness, reliability, and operational discipline.

Establish and enforce best-practice operational governance (change management, MOP/SOP/EOP discipline, incident escalation, RCA/CAPA).

Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs, contractor controls, asset health/lifecycle planning, and operational risk management.

Ensure operational readiness for capacity additions and customer fit-outs by coordinating local interfaces, access, approvals, and site support required for project execution.

- Customer Operations & Service Delivery

Lead local customer operations to ensure strong SLA performance, proactive issue resolution, and a consistently high standard of service experience.

Act as the senior escalation point for customer concerns and ensure timely, professional resolution.

Build trusted relationships with key customer stakeholders, supporting retention and account growth.

- Corporate Administration, Governance & Compliance

Ensure full compliance with local laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements.

Oversee in-country legal, HR, finance, and administration functions in coordination with regional/HQ support teams.

Maintain proper record-keeping, reporting standards, and audit readiness.

- Financial Management

Own the country P&L, operating budget, and capital expenditure oversight.

Drive cost discipline, financial accuracy, and timely reporting in alignment with regional/HQ expectations.

Identify and escalate financial risks and opportunities proactively.

- People & Organization

Build, lead, and develop a high-performing in-country team across operations, customer service, and corporate functions.

Foster a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and professional excellence.

Partner with HR on talent acquisition, succession planning, and employee engagement.

Required skills and experiences

- Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, Business Administration, Real Estate, or a related field. A postgraduate degree is an advantage.

Experience

- Minimum 12 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or general management role.

- Must have direct experience in at least one of the following: data center engineering delivery, critical facilities operations management, or government/regulatory relations in the real estate or infrastructure sector.

- Proven track record managing cross-functional teams and operating in a fast-paced, multinational environment.

Technical & Domain Knowledge

- Solid understanding of data center infrastructure, critical systems (power, cooling, connectivity), and mission-critical operational standards.

- Familiarity with data center government approval and licensing processes in Malaysia, including engagement with MDEC, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission), local authorities, and industrial park operators.

- Knowledge of relevant regulations governing data center operations, land use, power supply agreements, and environmental compliance in-country.

Government & Stakeholder Relations

- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and secure government approvals for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Other Requirements

- Must be legally authorized to work full-time in Indonesia

- Willingness to travel regionally as required.

Preferred skills and experiences

Skills & Competencies

- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to build and motivate a diverse local team.

- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Indonesia is a strong advantage; Mandarin is a plus for cross-border stakeholder engagement.

- Commercial acumen and financial literacy, with experience managing budgets and P&L.

- Ability to operate independently in-country while staying closely aligned with regional/HQ direction.

- High integrity, strong professional judgment, and proven ability to manage sensitive stakeholder relationships with discretion.
