One of our clients is looking for a Furniture Designer who blends traditional technical execution with modern AI capabilities.
Contract Type: Freelance / contract placement on a month-to-month basis (full-time hours, but no permanent employment contract), to support two large, ongoing projects that are currently bottlenecking the existing design team
Core Responsibilities
- AI-Assisted Ideation: Utilize text-to-image (e.g., Midjourney, PromeAI), and 2D/3D generative AI tools to rapidly iterate concepts, explore material combinations, and visualize client-ready mood boards.
- Generative & Parametric Design: Leverage AI algorithms to optimize weight, material usage, and structural performance while minimizing environmental impact and CO2 emissions.
- Traditional Technical Execution: Translate digital concepts into detailed, true-to-scale technical drawings, CAD blueprints, and exploded views.
- Physical Prototyping: Oversee the transition from digital rendering to physical reality, testing joins, evaluating joinery, and ensuring pieces meet ergonomic and comfort standards.
- Material Science: Source and apply knowledge of both traditional materials (e.g.,
- Proficient in 2D CAD to produce accurate, technical manufacturing drawings for furniture.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, or an equivalent.
- AI Fluency: Proven experience integrating AI into professional design pipelines (e.g., text prompting, image-to-image rendering, or 2D/3D AI modeling
- Technical Software: High proficiency in 2D / 3D modeling and drafting suites (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, SketchUp, or AutoCAD).
- Manufacturing Knowledge: In-depth understanding of production systems, CNC machining, cutting patterns, and factory limitations.
- Portfolio: A digital portfolio demonstrating the evolution of a design from early AI sketches/prompts to final technical execution and finished physical product
