Role Overview
We're looking for a Frontend Developer (React Native) to help build the next generation of the Gump mobile app.
Your first major project will be a camera → app → cloud experience: photos coming from a connected camera into our app, appearing instantly in an operator interface, and being shared with guests within seconds via QR codes and live galleries. Beyond that, you'll also contribute across the app to improve core user flows, performance, and new features.
What You'll Work On
- Build and improve screens and flows in our React Native app (iOS/Android), with a focus on event and photo workflows.
- Implement the app-side logic for:
- receiving new photos from a connected device/camera bridge,
- displaying them in real time in an operator UI,
- uploading them to our backend.
- Design and develop operator-friendly interfaces (e.g. iPad views) that:
- show the latest capture and its status,
- group photos for a guest or group,
- display a clear QR code for guests to scan and open their photos.
- Handle real-world edge cases:
- camera not connected or lost connection,
- slow or unstable network,
- retries, progress states, and clear user feedback.
- Work closely with backend engineers to define and consume clean REST/JSON APIs for live photo sessions, uploads, and QR sharing.
- Collaborate with product and design to turn user journeys into polished, responsive mobile experiences.
- Contribute to general app improvements: navigation, performance optimizations, refactors, and new feature development as Gump grows.
We're building our own flows and UX rather than just integrating a third‑party SDK, so you'll have real influence on how the experience works.
What You Bring
- Solid experience building and shipping React Native applications (TypeScript preferred).
- Strong understanding of:
- React/React Native components, navigation, and state management,
- integrating with REST APIs and handling async data,
- basic image/media handling and performance considerations on mobile.
- Comfortable working with native capabilities on iOS/Android via React Native (e.g. small native modules, device APIs, permissions).
- Strong debugging skills on real devices, including handling hardware and network variability.
- Clear communication and collaboration with designers, backend engineers, and product managers.
Nice to have (but not required):
- Experience with camera or photo apps, event tools, or real‑time upload/streaming flows.
- Familiarity with QR code generation and sharing experiences.
- Exposure to AWS or other cloud platforms (S3, CloudFront, etc.).
