Plan, prepare, and conduct PEFC and FSC forest management and/or chain-of-custody audits (on-site and remote) in accordance with accreditation and internal procedures.
Review client documentation (management plans, procedures, purchasing and sales records, volume summaries, due diligence systems) to assess compliance with relevant PEFC/FSC standards and guidance.
Perform field verification at forest sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and other facilities to evaluate implementation of sustainable forest management and traceability controls.
Identify nonconformities, opportunities for improvement, and good practices, and prepare clear audit findings, evidence, and objective justifications.
Draft high-quality audit reports and related certification documentation within required timelines and formats.
Act as Lead Auditor or team member, coordinating audit activities, communication, and roles within the audit team where applicable.
Communicate with clients before, during, and after audits regarding scope, schedule, logistics, audit process, and follow-up actions.
Monitor implementation and closure of corrective actions raised during audits, including review of objective evidence.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PEFC and FSC standards, related procedures, and sectoral developments in sustainable forestry and forest products.
Ensure all activities comply with internal quality, impartiality, and health & safety requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement of the certification system.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Forest Products, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Wood Technology, or related field.
A diploma/secondary education with significant relevant experience in forest products or wood/paper industry may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Typically 25 years of professional experience in forestry, forest management, wood products, paper/packaging, printing, or related supply chains.
Experience in sustainable forest management, due diligence systems, or chain-of-custody implementation (FSC, PEFC, or similar schemes) is strongly preferred.
Prior experience as an auditor (internal, second-party, or third-party) in forestry, environmental, or management system audits is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Good understanding of FSC and PEFC principles, criteria, and chain-of-custody/forest management requirements, or strong motivation to be trained and qualified.
Strong analytical skills to interpret standards, assess risks, and evaluate complex supply chain and forest management systems.
Good report-writing skills and attention to detail for documenting objective evidence, findings, and conclusions.
Effective communication and interviewing skills with workers, managers, communities, and other stakeholders, in Bahasa Indonesia and at least functional English.
High level of integrity, objectivity, and ability to balance customer service with independent, evidence-based decisions.
Ability to work independently, manage schedules and deadlines, and handle frequent travel to remote forest and industrial sites.
Proficiency in standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use digital tools for planning, data collection, and reporting
