COMPANY DESCRIPTION

NIHI Sumba is a luxury resort that redefines hospitality on the Edge of Wildness™, combining high-end service with immersive natural and cultural experiences.

The resort offers distinctive experiences including access to a renowned left-hand wave, equine wellness programs, ocean swims with horses, and curated land and sea adventures. Wellness is at the heart of the guest journey, highlighted by the award-winning Nihioka Spa and signature Spa Safari™, rooted in nature and Sumbanese tradition.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Finance Manager plays a key operational leadership role at NIHI Sumba, overseeing the resort's daily financial operations, internal controls, accounting systems, and financial compliance.

Based on-site in Sumba, the role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical capability, and a hands-on approach to team mentorship. The Finance Manager will ensure that the resort's financial operations consistently reflect international ultra-luxury standards, while optimizing remote-island logistics, local tax compliance, cash flow, and cost efficiency.

The role also supports NIHI's wider commitment to sustainability, responsible operations, and local community development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Management & Strategy: Oversee month-end and year-end financial closings, P&L reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and balance sheet reconciliations for executive review.
  • Cash Flow & Remote Logistics: Manage daily cash flow, remote banking operations, foreign currency exchanges, and local payment gateways suited to island operations.
  • Internal Controls & Auditing: Implement and maintain rigorous standard operating procedures across resort departments to strengthen financial controls, minimize leakage, and ensure cost accuracy.
  • Cost & Purchasing Control: Review procurement processes, freight logistics to Sumba, inventory management, and supplier contracts to support cost efficiency and healthy operating margins.
  • Taxation & Legal Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Indonesian tax regulations, including VAT, corporate tax, withholding taxes, local municipal levies, and payroll requirements.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the on-site finance and accounting team, supporting capability building, cultural alignment, and continued professional growth.
  • Executive Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reports, cost-benefit analyses, and strategic variance reporting for the Financial Controller and Managing Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. CPA or CA certification is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive finance management experience, preferably within a 5-star ultra-luxury resort, remote boutique hospitality environment, or high-end hotel group.
  • Financial Mastery: Strong expertise in hospitality accounting, remote cash flow management, budgeting, local tax structures, and operational audit frameworks.
  • Leadership Capability: Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing, mentoring, and upskilling cross-cultural finance and administrative teams.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Refined verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is highly advantageous for effective local team coordination.
  • Technical & System Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, with strong experience using hospitality ERPs, property management systems, and point-of-sale software.
  • Empathetic Alignment: Strong cultural empathy, patience, and a collaborative leadership approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting local talent development within the Sumba community.
  • Resort Adaptability: Proven resilience, emotional intelligence, and flexibility to live and work effectively in Sumba's remote island setting while maintaining the highest standards of financial operations.
