Medco E & P Indonesia is looking for an experienced Field Superintendent Construction Pipeline to join our team through a Third-Party Contract (TPC). In this role, you will contribute to Sakakemang PSC, an upstream oil and gas project located in South Sumatra and operated by MedcoEnergi. Currently in the development phase, the project is progressing toward First Gas/First Production, with start-up targeted for Q3 2027.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution of gas production pipeline construction activities (trunklines/flowlines) from the wellhead area to the Central Processing Plant (CPP) and to ensure that the project is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with company standards, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations. This role acts as the primary field representative for construction execution, ensuring effective coordination between the client, EPC contractor, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Management & Execution
- Lead and directly supervise all daily onsite construction activities for onshore gas pipeline projects, including Right of Way (ROW) clearing, trenching, pipe stringing, bending, welding, NDT inspection, joint coating, lowering-in, backfilling, and tie-ins to the CPP and wellhead areas.
- Ensure construction method statements and Approved for Construction (AFC) drawings are consistently implemented in the field by the EPC contractor.
- Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and project schedules
- Coordinate daily and weekly construction plans with engineering, procurement, QA/QC, and commissioning teams.
- Monitor construction progress and productivity, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions to meet project milestones.
- Ensure proper interface management between different disciplines and contractors on site.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce HSE policies, procedures in line with company and international oil & gas standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example through visible HSE leadership at site.
- Ensure all construction works are performed under valid work permits, risk assessments and method statements.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental protection requirements and site security rules.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure construction activities comply with project Quality Management System and inspection and test plans.
- Coordinate with QA/QC teams to ensure timely inspections, tests, and inspections release.
- Resolve construction quality issues and ensure proper rectification and close-out of non-conformities.
- Ensure as-built documentation and redline drawings are properly maintained.
Contractor & Resource Management
- Supervise EPC and subcontractor field teams, ensuring adequate manpower, equipment, and materials are available.
- Review daily construction reports, progress updates, and manpower allocation.
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and provide feedback on construction management.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with contractual, HSE, and quality requirements.
Cost, Schedule & Reporting
- Support construction planning and sequencing to optimize schedule and cost performance.
- Identify potential risks, constraints, or changes that may impact schedule or cost and escalate proactively.
- Coordinate with Project Controls on progress measurement and reporting.
- Prepare and submit regular construction reports, including HSE, progress, and key issues.
Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the main point of contact on site for construction-related matters.
- Coordinate actively with Community Relations, Stakeholder Relations and Land Acquisition teams to manage social issues along the pipeline ROW.
- Coordinate with EPC representatives, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and commissioning teams.
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and mechanical completion activities.
- Participate in site meetings, coordination meetings, and management reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical or related discipline).
- Minimum 13 years of construction experience, preferably in oil & gas projects.
- Proven experience with minimum 4 years experience as Site Superintendent or Field Superintendent, or Construction Superintendent.
- Previous experience working for Operators/Owners is essential.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and best practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of international pipeline construction standards and Indonesian oil and gas technical regulations.
- Solid understanding of HSE regulations and international oil & gas standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and team coordination skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with strong decision-making skills under site conditions.
- Proficient in construction reporting and use of project management tools.
- English B2 (Upper Intermediate) Level.
