Qualifications

- 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in ecommerce or retail environments.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite, and familiarity with ecommerce platforms like Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, or WooCommerce.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS principles, especially related to revenue recognition for online sales, inventory valuation, and sales tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience with payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, PayPal) and handling multi-currency transactions.
- Analytical skills with expertise in Excel or Google Sheets for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Ecommerce Accountant will manage day-to-day financial operations for an online retail business, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance in a high-volume transaction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Handle accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and month-end closing processes specific to ecommerce sales data.
- Manage inventory accounting, including cost of goods sold (COGS) calculations and variance analysis for online stock levels.
- Ensure compliance with sales tax, VAT/GST, and international regulations for cross-border ecommerce transactions.
- Analyze financial data from ecommerce platforms to identify trends, optimize pricing strategies, and support budgeting/forecasting.
- Collaborate with operations teams on fraud detection, chargeback management, and refund processing.
- Assist in audits and prepare tax returns, leveraging ecommerce-specific tools for data extraction.
- Monitor cash flow from online payments and recommend improvements to financial controls.
