Job Description

Position Overview

The Dietary Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership of the hospital's dietary services, ensuring the delivery of safe, timely, and nutritionally appropriate meal services for patients. The role oversees dietary operations, coordinates nutrition service delivery, supervises dietary staff, and promotes compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Medical Support Manager and multidisciplinary teams, the Dietary Supervisor supports optimal patient care through effective nutrition service management and continuous service improvement.

  • Dietary operations are effectively coordinated to support patient care, service efficiency, and continuity of nutrition services.

  • Dietary resources, food supplies, and operational processes are effectively managed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • A collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented dietary team culture is fostered through effective leadership and staff development.
  • Patient satisfaction, service quality, and continuous improvement initiatives are actively monitored and supported.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

A. Operational Leadership

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of dietary services to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality meal service delivery
  • Coordinate meal preparation, production, and distribution to ensure meals are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Monitor daily dietary operations, staffing requirements, and workflow to maintain operational efficiency
  • Ensure adequate availability of food supplies, equipment, and operational resources to support uninterrupted dietary services.

B. Nutrition Service Coordination

  • Coordinate the implementation of prescribed dietary requirements in collaboration with dietitians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
  • Ensure patient meals are prepared and delivered in accordance with approved diet orders, food allergies, and therapeutic nutrition requirements.
  • Support effective communication between dietary services and clinical teams to facilitate patient-centered nutrition care

C. Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Promote compliance with hospital policies, food safety regulations, infection prevention standards and applicable healthcare requirements
  • Monitor food preparation, storage, handling, and meal distribution processes to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, audits, accreditation activities, and incident investigations related to dietary services.

D. Leadership & People Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support dietary staff
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and service-oriented working environment
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and performance feedback
  • Coordinate daily staff allocation and shift coverage to maintain safe and effective dietary operations

E. Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with dietitians, nursing teams, medical staff, and other hospital departments to support effective nutrition services.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding dietary requirements, operational issues, and patient service needs.
  • Escalate operational concerns or service issues to the Medical Support Manager in a timely manner.

F. Administation & Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare and maintain dietary operational reports, documentation, and relevant records.
  • Monitor dietary service performance indicators and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental projects, accreditation activities, and hospital commissioning initiatives as required.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or another relevant discipline
  • Valid STR Dietiesin
  • Professional Registration as a Dietitian
  • Minimum 5 years experience in hospital dietary services, clinical nutrition, food service operations, or a related healthcare environment
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering patient-focused nutrition services
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
