Role Summary:
The Engineering Design Manager leads the design and engineering delivery of data centre projects, taking ownership of design documentation, layouts and equipment selection within their discipline of competence. Working in close coordination with the designated BCEI Project Principal, Project Manager and Construction Manager, the role manages project resources, schedules and budgets across the full project lifecycle – from site selection and customer inquiry through design, permitting, procurement, construction and commissioning, to final closeout and handover documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering Delivery
- Produce design documentation, layouts and equipment selections within discipline of competence.
- Provide management, or management assistance, of all project resources to ensure scheduled design delivery within the project budget, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Project Principal.
- Provide management, or management assistance, of all project resources through design and construction to ensure scheduled project delivery within budget, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
- Schedule and participate in project design reviews with customers, vendors, contractors and design professionals.
Project Management & Coordination
- Perform complete project management duties, or management assistance, as assigned by the BCEI Project Principal.
- Participate in, coordinate and compile project site selection and customer inquiry responses with vendors, contractors and design professionals, as directed by the designated BCEI Project Manager or Principal.
- Provide direction and responses to all project inquiries, either directly or by managing the inquiry process through the appropriate project resources.
- Provide periodic executive summaries of activities to the designated BCEI Project Principal.
Budget, Schedule & Procurement
- Schedule, coordinate and compile project budgeting with vendors, contractors and design professionals.
- Schedule, coordinate and compile the project schedule with vendors, contractors and design professionals.
- Schedule, coordinate and compile all equipment procurement with vendors, contractors and design professionals.
Permitting & Utilities
- Schedule, coordinate and compile all construction permitting with local authorities, vendors, contractors and design professionals.
- Schedule, coordinate and compile all public utility service applications with local utilities and design professionals.
Construction & Commissioning Oversight
- Provide periodic on-site observation of all construction-related activities, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
- Schedule, coordinate and compile all commissioning-related activities with vendors, contractors and design professionals.
- Provide on-site observation of all commissioning-related activities, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
- Schedule, coordinate and compile all customer reporting documents through design and construction, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
Project Closeout & Documentation
- Participate in, coordinate and compile project field documentation of as-built conditions – either directly or by managing the appropriate design and construction resources – in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
- Participate in, coordinate and compile O&M documentation, either directly or by managing the appropriate design and construction resources, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
- Participate in, coordinate and compile all customer and regulatory documentation, either directly or by managing the appropriate design and construction resources, in conjunction with the designated BCEI Construction Manager.
Talent Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil/Structural or a related discipline); a relevant Master's degree is an advantage.
- Significant engineering and design experience, with demonstrated delivery of large, complex building or infrastructure projects – data centre or mission-critical facility experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary design teams and external vendors, contractors and consultants through the full project lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules and procurement to successful, on-time delivery.
- Familiarity with construction permitting, public utility applications and regulatory approval processes in Indonesia (and the wider APAC region).
- Clear written and verbal communication, including concise executive-level reporting.
