We are looking to recruit a Country GM for a company that develops nature-based solutions (NbS) carbon projects in Southeast Asia. The role is based in Jakarta with frequent travel to project sites across the region including remote locations
The objective is to lead all-country operations spanning administration, project origination, commercial structuring, and programme delivery across Indonesia. You will be working with the executive team, department leads, and support project teams in day-to-day delivery
About the Country GM - Agriculture opportunity:
- Serve as the senior representative and decision-maker in Indonesia across all domains - operations, commercial, legal, regulatory, and people
- Advise founders on strategic and operational decisions for the Indonesian entity: structure, risk, compliance, opportunity
- Build and maintain the company's reputation and relationships across Indonesia's carbon, forestry, and NbS ecosystem
- Own all in-country business operations: payroll, HR administration, tax compliance, VAT, insurance, and regulatory filings
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, employment contracting, and offboarding for all Indonesia-based staff
- Ensure full compliance with Indonesian employment law, tax obligations, and corporate regulations
- Build and sustain relationships with policy makers and government counterparts at national, provincial, and regency level
- Maintain visibility with international carbon finance buyers, grant makers, and NbS networks
- Design and build the team infrastructure required to deliver the growing project portfolio
- Build a talent pipeline across Indonesia's NbS and forestry ecosystem - identifying strong operators before roles are formally open
- Negotiate and structure co-development agreements, MOUs, landowner contracts, and planting partner agreements0
- Manage commercial terms: revenue splits, technical development fees, payment schedules, milestone-based disbursements
- Own the full deal lifecycle from first conversation through to signed and executed agreement

Skills and experience needed:
- Strong passion for nature, and for being in nature
- 7+ years of experience in carbon markets, nature-based solutions, forestry, or closely related fields
- Deep understanding of Indonesian culture, business norms, and how relationships drive outcomes in this context
- Demonstrated track record running in-country operations: HR, payroll, tax, compliance, and legal administration within an Indonesian entity
- Hands-on experience originating and structuring carbon or forestry projects with landholders, NGOs, or concession holders
- Self-directed: you build systems, set priorities, and deliver outcomes without a detailed roadmap
