Job Description

Job Description – Project Assistant / Manager (Mandarin-Speaking)

Location: Jakarta, with dispatch to project sites across Jabodetabek

Type: Full-time

Experience: 5–8 years

Company Description Point North Asia is a boutique advisory and business solutions firm based in Indonesia, specializing in the China–Indonesia market ecosystem. The firm leverages deep business acumen and cross-border expertise to help organizations navigate bilateral opportunities between the two markets. Acting as a trusted local advisor, Point North Asia supports a diverse and growing set of stakeholders, including corporates, investors, and partners. Team members benefit from exposure to cross-cultural projects, strategic advisory work, and an environment focused on practical, results-oriented solutions.

About the role

We are looking for a Project Assistant who is comfortable working in a Mandarin-speaking environment and can earn the trust of Chinese business owners and senior decision-makers. This is not an administrative role. You will work closely on live projects, help move them forward on the ground, and solve problems as they come up.

Key responsibilities

  • Be the day-to-day link between Chinese clients and their Indonesian partners, suppliers, contractors and government offices.
  • Speak directly with Chinese business owners and senior executives in Mandarin. Give them updates, explain the local context and help shape their decisions.
  • Support project work on site across Jabodetabek. This means coordinating meetings, tracking progress, following up on actions and flagging issues early.
  • Break down problems, whether commercial, operational, regulatory or interpersonal. Weigh the options and propose practical solutions.
  • Prepare and translate project materials such as meeting notes, reports, presentations and correspondence in Mandarin, Indonesian and English.
  • Research new opportunities, including markets, regulations and background checks on potential partners.
  • Help prepare for negotiations, government meetings and client visits, and handle the follow-up afterwards.
  • Keep project documents, timelines and action trackers organised and up to date.

Requirements

  • Very fluent spoken and written Mandarin, good enough to hold business discussions and negotiate with senior Chinese counterparts.
  • Comfortable working and living in a Chinese-speaking environment every day.
  • Fluent Indonesian.
  • The legal right to work in Indonesia.
  • 5–8 years of work experience.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to influence business owners and senior decision-makers.
  • A logical, structured mind. You can analyse a situation, find the real issue and work out a solution.
  • Willing to be sent to project sites across Jabodetabek as needed.

Preferred

  • Has lived, studied or worked in China, or has worked closely with Chinese companies.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Experience in project coordination, consulting, business development, or industrial, energy or infrastructure projects.

Who we're looking for

  • Curious: you ask why things work the way they do, and you keep digging until you understand.
  • A quick learner: you pick up new industries, regulations and people fast.
  • Never complacent: you go looking for the next problem to solve instead of settling into a routine.
  • Composed and resourceful: you stay calm when things are unclear or moving fast, and you find a way forward.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary for the right person.
  • Direct work with Chinese investors, senior executives and cross-border deals from day one.
  • A small, fast-moving team where your contribution is visible and your responsibilities grow with your ability.
