CHIEF STEWARD

The Chief Steward is responsible for overseeing the stewarding department, ensuring the efficient and hygienic handling of kitchen and dining equipment, maintaining cleanliness in food preparation and service areas, and managing a team of stewards. This role plays a crucial part in supporting kitchen operations and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate the stewarding team to ensure efficient and organized operations.
  • Conduct training sessions for stewards on proper cleaning procedures, equipment usage, and hygiene standards.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Oversee the procurement and inventory control of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
  • Hygiene and Sanitation:
  • Implement and enforce strict hygiene and sanitation standards in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Regularly inspect workstations, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of equipment to prolong their lifespan.
  • Waste Management:
  • Develop and implement waste management procedures, including recycling initiatives.
  • Monitor and optimize waste disposal processes to minimize environmental impact.
  • Communication:
  • Collaborate with kitchen and dining room staff to coordinate efficient workflows.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of supplies and equipment.
  • Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure the quality of cleanliness and organization in all stewarding areas.
  • Address and rectify any issues related to cleanliness and hygiene promptly.
  • Budget Management:
  • Assist in the development of the stewarding budget.
  • Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures where possible.

Qualifications

Work Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; additional relevant certifications a plus.
  • Proven experience in a stewarding or related role, with a minimum of [X] years of experience.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food service operations.
