Job Description

Our client is a highly dynamic, privately-held diversified group with substantial, expanding interests across the global energy and mining sectors. Known for its agile decision-making and strategic capital deployment, the group focuses on high-value asset acquisition, sustainable resource development, and long-term joint ventures. As they enter a critical phase of international scaling and cross-border partnerships, they are looking to appoint a high-caliber executive to this newly created position.

Position Overview

The Head of CEO Office & Business Development is a dual-impact, high-visibility role designed for a strategic heavyweight. You will act as the CEO's primary strategic advisor and proxy, while simultaneously leading the group's aggressive business development, M&A, and joint venture (JV) agendas. Given the global nature of the portfolio and critical stakeholder networks, professional fluency in Mandarin and English is a strict requirement to facilitate high-stakes negotiations and cross-border collaborations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Advisory & Executive Operations (CEO Office)

  • Strategic Advisor: Act as a trusted sounding board and strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors, driving long-term corporate planning and investment evaluations.
  • Special Projects: Oversee and execute high-impact special projects, strategic initiatives, and task forces on behalf of the CEO, frequently managing confidential, ambiguous, or time-sensitive matters.
  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Align and coordinate cross-functional teams (Finance, Legal, Operations) to ensure the flawless delivery of executive-level priorities.
  • Executive Communication: Streamline communication flowing into and out of the CEO's office, preparing board presentations, briefings, and corporate position papers.

2. Business Development, M&A, and Growth

  • Deal Structuring & Execution: Lead end-to-end business development initiatives, including Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) assessments, Joint Venture (JV) structuring, and strategic partnerships.
  • Market Expansion: Identify, evaluate, and penetrate new geographic markets and asset classes across the global energy and mining sectors.
  • Commercial Negotiation: Lead high-stakes commercial negotiations, leveraging language and cultural fluency to secure favorable terms with international partners, state-owned enterprises, and private entities.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Experience & Background

  • Industry Expertise: Minimum of 8–12 years of progressive experience, with a proven track record in Energy, Mining, Commodities, or top-tier Management Consulting / Investment Banking covering these sectors.
  • Leadership Value: Demonstrated experience working directly with C-suite executives, boards, or institutional investors.
  • Deal Sheet: Proven experience in identifying, structuring, and closing complex commercial deals, M&A, or JVs.

Skills & Competencies

  • Language Proficiency: Professional fluency (written and spoken) in Mandarin Chinese and English is MANDATORY. The ability to navigate complex commercial, legal, and financial terms in both languages is critical.
  • Financial & Analytical Acumen: Strong capability in financial modeling, valuation, and risk assessment for large-scale capital projects.
  • Diplomacy & Influence: Exceptional emotional intelligence (EQ) with the ability to navigate complex political and corporate landscapes, managing diverse stakeholders seamlessly.

What the Role Offers

  • A seat at the table influencing the trajectory of a rapidly growing, well-capitalized energy and mining group.
  • Highly competitive executive compensation package with performance-linked incentives.
  • Exposure to high-value global transactions and top-tier industry network.
