Our client is a market leader in their category, known for precision engineering, product innovation, and a strong consumer-facing retail footprint through a dedicated distribution network.
As the business enters a pivotal growth phase, they are seeking a commercially sharp and strategically driven leader to spearhead brand performance, distributor engagement, and market expansion across Indonesia.
Role Summary
The Business Development Manager will serve as the key commercial liaison between our client and their exclusive distribution partner in Indonesia. You will be responsible for designing and executing commercial strategies that accelerate brand performance, drive product prioritisation within the distributor's network, and accelerate revenue growth. This role demands a rigorous, data-driven mindset paired with the relationship acumen to influence without authority and a genuine passion for building a brand to its full market potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement joint business plans with the exclusive distributor to ensure brand targets are met.
- Monitor sell-through data, identify underperformance triggers, and deploy corrective strategies swiftly.
- Develop and execute strategies to grow the brand's market share and visibility across existing and untapped retail touchpoints throughout Indonesia.
- Build deep, trusted relationships with the distributor's leadership and commercial teams to secure consistent product prioritisation, share-of-shelf, and promotional support.
- Track, analyse, and report on commercial KPIs including sell-in, sell-out, brand ranking within the distributor portfolio, and territory coverage by using insights to continuously sharpen strategy.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to strengthen trade marketing programmes, amplify in-store presence, and drive consumer demand through the existing retail network
- Continuously monitor the vision care market, competitor activities, and consumer trends in Indonesia to identify opportunities and risks, feeding insights back into business strategy.
Key Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in the vision care, optics, or premium consumer health industry, but candidates from adjacent categories with strong optics exposure will also be considered.
- Proven track record managing distributor relationships, ideally including experience with exclusive or key distributors, including designing and executing joint business plans and growing business collaboratively.
- Commercially rigorous with strong analytical skills: able to diagnose commercial underperformance, understand root causes, and define clear, actionable corrective strategies.
- Strong influencing skills with proven ability to drive product prioritisation and commercial outcomes through a partner or distributor model, rather than through direct sales authority.
- Comfortable operating in a principal-distributor model where commercial success depends on collaboration, mutual trust, and the ability to align a partner's priorities to your brand's goals.
- Strategic thinker with execution discipline and capable of formulating long-term brand strategy while maintaining day-to-day commercial rigour and accountability.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable engaging both internal principals and external distributor counterparts at a senior level.
- Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English required.
