ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Equipment Reliability & Performance
  • Ensure high reliability and availability of all mechanical equipment in the packing hall (conveyors, fillers, sealers, cartoners, case packers, palletizers).
  • Drive reduction of unplanned breakdowns and minor stops.
  • Monitor and improve key KPIs; Line efficiency (OEE support), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)
  • Lead troubleshooting of chronic mechanical issues.
  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Management
  • Develop and implement Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans based on failure modes.
  • Introduce condition-based maintenance where applicable (vibration, temperature, wear checks).
  • Ensure PM compliance and continuously improve PM effectiveness.
  • Analyze breakdown history and adjust maintenance strategies accordingly.
  • Continuous Improvement & Kaizen
  • Lead mechanical-focused kaizen projects to reduce losses in packing lines.
  • Identify and eliminate chronic losses such as: conveyor jams, misalignment issues, excessive wear components
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
  • Implement poka-yoke solutions to prevent repeat issues.
  • Team Leadership & Capability Development
  • Supervise and guide maintenance technicians and contractors.
  • Develop team competency through: technical coaching, skill matrix development, on-the-job training
  • Promote a problem-solving mindset and ownership among team members.
  • Ensure proper manpower allocation per line and priority.
  • Maintenance Execution
  • Ensure proper execution of: corrective maintenance, preventive task, overhaul/shutdown activities
  • Collaborate with production to minimize downtime during interventions.
  • Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and procedures.
  • Enforce LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) practices.
  • Identify and mitigate mechanical hazards (moving parts, pinch points, guarding issues).
  • Lead incident investigation related to mechanical failures or unsafe conditions.
  • Equipment Standardization & Improvement
  • Standardize mechanical components across packing lines where possible.
  • Drive improvements in: machine design weaknesses and maintainability (ease of access, modular replacement)
  • Work with OEMs and engineering teams for modifications or upgrades.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Documentation & Data Management
  • Maintain accurate records of: breakdown reports, maintenance activities, spare part usage
  • Develop and update: SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), PM checklist, mechanical drawings and documentation
  • Use CMMS (if available) for tracking and reporting maintenance performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with:
    • Production (line performance and scheduling)
    • Electrical/Automation team (integrated troubleshooting)
    • Quality (product handling, defects due to mechanical issues)
  • Support initiatives related to productivity, quality, and cost improvement.
  • Shutdown & Project Management
  • Lead mechanical scope of planned shutdowns/annual maintenance.
  • Plan manpower, materials, and timeline for execution.
  • Ensure projects are completed OTIF and in high quality
  • Monitor contractor performance during projects.
  • Sustainability & Asset Life Extension
  • Implement practices to extend equipment life:
    • proper lubrication management
    • alignment and balancing
    • wear monitoring
  • Support sustainability initiatives:
    • energy efficiency improvements
    • reduction of material waste due to equipment issues

  • OEE improvement (Packing Hall)
  • Mechanical breakdown frequency
  • MTTR / MTBF improvement
  • PM compliance rate
  • Maintenance cost per unit
  • Spare availability rate
  • 0% repeat breakdown reduction
  • Safety incident rate (zero accident target)

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Additional professional certifications in maintenance, reliability, TPM, project management, or safety will be an added value.
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, engineering, or asset care, preferably in FMCG, food manufacturing, consumer goods, packaging, or high-speed production environments.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in maintenance or engineering roles.
  • Proven experience in managing maintenance activities for packing hall / packaging line equipment, such as:
    • conveyors
    • fillers
    • sealers
    • cartoners
    • palletizers
    • wrappers
    • case packers
    • ancillary mechanical systems
  • Experience in handling breakdown reduction, preventive maintenance, and shutdown activities.
  • Demonstrated track record in improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and solving chronic mechanical issues.
  • Technical Knowledge and Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and rotating/static equipment used in packing and manufacturing operations.
  • Good understanding of:
    • preventive maintenance
    • predictive maintenance
    • corrective maintenance
    • breakdown analysis
    • root cause analysis (RCA)
    • condition monitoring principles
  • Knowledge of lubrication management, alignment, bearings, gearboxes, chain drives, belts, couplings, pneumatic systems, and machine components.
  • Familiarity with high-speed packaging equipment and machine performance losses such as jams, misalignment, wear, vibration, and repetitive stoppages.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • mechanical drawings
    • equipment manuals
    • technical specifications
    • spare parts lists
  • Working knowledge of maintenance planning systems / CMMS is preferred.
  • Leadership and Management Experience
  • Experience in leading maintenance technicians, supervisors, or contractors in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to manage daily maintenance priorities while balancing breakdown response, preventive maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Experience in coaching, training, and developing team capability.
  • Strong coordination skills in working with production, quality, safety, and engineering teams.
  • Ability to lead maintenance execution during planned shutdowns, machine overhauls, and project implementation.
  • Continuous Improvement Experience
  • Hands-on experience in continuous improvement, kaizen, TPM, WCM, Lean, or other structured improvement methodologies.
  • Proven capability in identifying chronic equipment losses and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Experience in using problem-solving tools such as:
    • 5 Why
    • Fishbone Diagram
    • RCA
    • Pareto analysis
    • Failure mode review
  • Strong focus on reliability improvement, maintenance optimization, and equipment standardization.
  • Safety and Compliance Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of maintenance safety practices in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with:
    • LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out)

  • Experience in ensuring maintenance work complies with company safety standards and engineering procedures.
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and drive corrective actions.
  • Project and Cost Management Exposure
  • Experience in supporting or leading mechanical improvement projects, equipment modification, installation, or commissioning activities.
  • Exposure to maintenance budgeting, spare parts planning, and cost control.
  • Ability to evaluate repair vs replacement decisions and optimize maintenance spending without compromising reliability.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance and equipment reliability, particularly in high-speed packing or manufacturing operations.
  • Proven ability to analyze breakdowns, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Hands-on experience in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, coach, and develop technicians and frontline maintenance teams.
  • Good planning and organizational skills to manage routine maintenance, shutdown work, urgent breakdowns, and improvement projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment, collaborating with Production, Electrical, Automation, Quality, Safety, and external contractors.
  • Strong commitment to safety, compliance, quality, and engineering standards.
  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on equipment performance, downtime reduction, maintenance effectiveness, and cost optimization.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to drive kaizen, standardization, and reliability enhancement initiatives.
